It’s hard to believe it’s the last month of the year, and this month is the 9th anniversary of me starting blogging, and next month will be the second blog birthday for Makeup Muddle, so I decided I wanted to do a pre-Christmas giveaway to celebrate.

I love doing giveaways, and I’ve given away a tonne of advent calendars over the last few months, which has been so much fun. So, I decided to end the year with one big giveaway, and do a bit of a recap to look back at the last twelve months.
2021 has been all about the beauty collaborations, with collabs from brands like Revolution, Wet ‘n Wild, ColourPop, Kylie Cosmetics, HipDot, Morphe, Urban Decay, Smashbox, Profusion and so many, many more.
It used to be all about influencer collabs, but now it’s become mostly licensed collaborations launching, so it’ll be interesting to see what’s coming in 2022. There have been some really random collaborations like the HipDot Tapatío collab, but some really great ones too, like the Revolution Corpse Bride collab.
I thought it would be fun to look back at just five of my favourite launches from 2021, as it’s been such a full-on year for beauty collections, following an (understandably) quieter year last year. These launches aren’t in any order, they’re just five of my favourite launches or collections this year.
Revolution Corpse Bride
The Revolution x Corpse Bride collaboration was one of three licensed Halloween collaborations for Revolution, with there also being a Matrix collab, and a Simpsons collab too.
All three Halloween collections were great, but the Corpse Bride one was just amazing, and every single product is amazing quality, and highly pigmented too.
Wet n Wild SpongeBob SquarePants Collaboration
The Wet n Wild SpongeBob SquarePants Collaboration launched before the summer, and it was so unexpected to see from Wet ‘n Wild. It was such a fun, colourful collection, with the best packaging designs.
Wet n Wild have gone on to launch other collaborations such as their Saved By The Bell collab and Twin Stars collab, but there’s no doubt that the SpongeBob one was definitely the best.
ColourPop x Animal Crossing Collaboration
The first licensed collaboration for ColourPop for 2021 was their Animal Crossing collection, which launched in January. It had initially been sneak peeked last December by an influencer a little too early, so by the time the official announcement came, there was a lot of hype and excitement.
It was so cute, and the packaging designs were adorable, and did Animal Crossing justice. Some brands just stick their name on a collaboration, and you can tell it’s not been very thought out, but the ColourPop Animal Crossing collab was just perfect.
MAC Black Cherry Collection
The MAC Black Cherry Collection is my favourite MAC collection in a long time. It was MAC’s Spring 2021 collection, and there was a beautiful cherry blossom theme across the entire collection, with beautiful packaging and shades.
The blushers in particular, were just stunning, and it was clearly a super popular collection, as there’s going to be more cherry blossom products launching in the coming spring too, so if you did miss out on the original collection, you’ll be able to enjoy the new collection early next year.
Cult Beauty Advent Calendar
There were a record number of beauty advent calendars this year, but for me, the number one beauty advent calendar for 2021 was without a doubt, the Cult Beauty advent calendar.
It was packed with nearly £1000 worth of beauty treats for just over £200, and there were days when you got multiple products. It was fantastic, and Cult Beauty are going to have a real hard time trying to beat it for 2022.
I could probably do a post of twenty-five or more favourite launches from the year, but these are just five. It’s been a crazy year, but I’m excited to see what launches are coming our way during 2022.
