If you watch a lot of TikTok videos, you’ve probably seen a lot of videos about the Internal Shower Hack. When I first heard about it, I was apprehensive about what it was, but it’s not as intimidating as it sounds; I promise.
With the rise of TikTok, we’ve seen lots of TikTok trends come and go, and many, many viral videos. There are so many videos of supposed ‘hacks’ which promise you the world, and most rarely deliver. However, the Internal Shower trend looks like it does actually work… but what is it? Well, it’s a detox drink to make you poop, essentially.
Like all health hacks, you should always be careful and never try them if you have pre-existing health conditions, and this particular trend is something you should possibly avoid trying if you have bowel conditions or digestive problems. It might be worth speaking to your doctor, or your local pharmacist if you want reassurance, but let’s get into what the trend actually is.
What is The Internal Shower?
As I mentioned above, it’s not half as scary as it sounds. The detox drink hack involves drinking an easy-to-make drink, and due to the ingredients, by drinking the drink, it’s said to get your digestive system moving, and helping to ease constipation for those that are feeling bunged up.

What ingredients are in the Internal Shower Drink?
Well, the Internal Shower drink is actually very simple to make, and involves just three ingredients. Together, as a gut cleanse drink, they are said to help detox your body, and will relieve constipation. In order to make the Internal Shower drink, you’ll need the following;
- Glass of water
- Two tablespoons of chia seeds
- Lemon juice (fresh lemon)
- Himalayan salt
How to make the Internal Shower Drink?
Pour yourself a glass of fridge-cold water, and scoop two heaped tablespoons of chia seeds, and tip them into the water, and stir the mixture well. Once you’ve mixed it together, you need to leave the mixture for at least five minutes.
During that time, the chia seeds will transform to a gel-like consistency within the water, which is exactly what you want. Once you’ve got the gel-like consistency, add a squeeze of fresh lemon, and a pinch of Himalayan salt, before mixing once more, and finally; drink the detox shower drink!
What does the Internal Shower Drink actually do?
Chia seeds are a small, black seed that is often used in health foods and supplements. When soaked in water, chia seeds form a gel-like substance. This gel is made up of soluble fiber, which can have a laxative effect when consumed in large quantities.
Soluble fiber absorbs water and swells in the intestine, which helps to stimulate bowel movements and prevent constipation. In addition, the gel-like texture of soaked chia seeds can help to coat the intestinal walls, soothing inflammation and diarrhea. For these reasons, chia seeds are often used as a natural remedy for constipation and other digestive issues.
However, it is important to note that chia seeds can also have side effects when consumed in large amounts. These side effects include bloating, gas, and abdominal cramps. Therefore, it is best to consume chia seeds in moderation and drink plenty of water when consuming them.
The results you get from drinking the Internal Shower Drink will depend on how constipated you are. You might also experience some bloating or discomfort.
So it might be a good idea to use just one heaped tablespoon of chia seeds and test to see how your body reacts to rev mixture. You might find one spoon is more than enough, and you’ll still get the detoxifying benefits.
Does the internal shower drink work?
Yes. The internal shower drink does work. That’s due to the laxative effect of the chia seeds mixed with the water, which helps to stimulate your bowel, and encourage bowel movements. It will have varying results for everyone, but ultimately, it’s trending because it works, and is a relatively ‘quick’ fix for those wanting a detox, or relieve constipation.
Many TikTok hacks end up being plain weird, or just don’t work. However, due to the high fiber content, it’s easy to see why this hack does actually work. If you’re feeling backed up, and want some relief, give the internal shower drink a try, and see if you can feel better.
