The Tarte Hydrocealer Concealer launched back in April 2020, and launched as part of the Tarte SEA Collection alongside the Tarte HydroCealer Blending Sponge.
I was intrigued by the Hydrocealer formula, as I find the original Shape Tape Concealer to be a touch too drying for my super dry skin, so I was interested to see if the Tarte Hydrocealer Concealer would be better suited for my skin type.

“From the number one concealer brand in America*, this formula powered by hydroflex technology™ flexes with your expressions without caking or creasing, so it looks and feels like your skin. It’s sweatproof, waterproof, fragrance-free, oil-free, and infused with skin-loving ingredients for all day wear.“
The Tarte Hydrocealer Concealer is available in two sizes, with a 6g full size for $25 and there’s a cute tiny sample size which is 1g, and it’s $10. I bought the mini size, hence why it looks so tiny, but I have to be honest, I had no idea it was only 1g small.
It is seriously small, and whilst it’s nice to be able to try the formula in a small size, the value for money is kinda crazy. In the full size it works out at being $4.16 per 1g, and the mini size works out at being $10 per gram – $10!
Plus, when I first pull the doefoot out of the tube, there wasn’t a lot of product on the doefoot applicator, but I thought it would improve with use, but in just a week, it felt like there wasn’t a lot of product left, and that’s because the doefoot is so short.
It doesn’t dip into the base of the tube, and I had to use tweezers to pull the stopper out. I fully appreciate it *is* a mini size, but there’s a design flaw with how short the doefoot is, and a week’s worth of (light) use isn’t the best, but it’s expected I guess, as it’s only 1g.
In terms of formula, I don’t love the Tarte Hydrocealer Concealer. It’s very, very light coverage. I don’t like super full coverage concealers anyway, but this concealer hardly covers anything. You can still see acne scarring, pigmentation and darkness around the eyes.
I know it’s meant to be a lighter, more hydrating concealer formula, but it just feels a little pointless, in how little coverage it gives.
Whenever I apply the Tarte Hydrocealer Concealer, I always want to go in with another concealer to get the coverage I want, so I might as well go in with a better coverage concealer in the first place, so it’s not a concealer I’d repurchase, unfortunately.
