The NYX Cosmetics x Tetris Collaboration has been revealed as NYX’s upcoming launch, and it’s such a random collaboration for a beauty brand.
Over the last twelve months, we’ve seen beauty brands opt for more licensed collaborations than influencer collaborations, but this collaboration with Tetris, and ELF’s collaboration with Chipotle are both very random.
NYX Cosmetics x Tetris Collaboration
The NYX Cosmetics x Tetris Collaboration is set to launch on the 28th of March on the NYX website, and then at ULTA on the 4th of April. This whole collection is inspired by the retro puzzle game, and includes one big palette, an eyeliner set and two lip kits.
The NYX x Tetris Jumbo Shadow Palette is going to be $45, and contains 80 powder shadows in tiny rectangular pans. The palette has cardboard packaging, and does look quite cool with the shapes of the Tetris pieces on the packaging.
I was shocked to see the price of this palette, especially as NYX is a drugstore brand. Whenever a brand does a licensed collab, they need to increase the prices of the products due to the licensing fee they’ve had to pay in order to secure the collaboration. However, for $45 you could buy a high-end palette for that price.
If you like the idea of a huge palette with lots of different shades, the Revolution 196 pan mega palette is only £15, so it’d be a much better option if the Tetris theme wasn’t important to you.
Next up in the NYX Cosmetics x Tetris Collaboration is the NYX x Tetris Epic Liner Kit which is going to be $30, and contains five full sized NYX Liner Stick Eyeliners.
The shades within this kit are in their permanent range which is disappointing. NYX is notorious for repackaging their permanent products and trying to market it as being a new product / set.
Once you take the liners out of the box, there’s nothing Tetris themed about the liners, so you could always purchase the liner shades you like the most individually to save money.
Lastly, the collection includes two lip kits, each of which contain one shade of Butter Gloss and one shade of Slim Lip Liner.
Again the shades in both lip kits are in NYX permanent range, and there’s nothing Tetris themed about the products apart from the cardboard box.
The two Tetris Lip Kits within the NYX Cosmetics x Tetris Collaboration are; Angel Food Cake and Bit of Honey, and both of these lip kits are $8 each.
Overall, I’m underwhelmed by this collection. The palette is the only new product within the collection, and I wish NYX just didn’t repackage existing products with every collection they launch. It is a limited edition collection, and is available right here.
