ColourPop has launched some really great makeup primers over the years. I was a big fan of the ColourPop All Star Primer, and was gutted when it was discontinued, so when the ColourPop Pretty Fresh Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Primer launched, I couldn’t wait to try it, to see how it compared to the old All Star Primer.
You don’t really hear people talking about the ColourPop primers and setting sprays. It’s mostly about their palettes, Super Shock shadows, and lip products. However, I’ve found their complexion category to have some really great hidden gems, that deserve a lot more praise within the beauty community.
What Is The ColourPop Pretty Fresh Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Primer?
“look so fresh in this lightweight, hydrating primer! refresh and prep your skin to create a silky smooth canvas before applying makeup. infused with hyaluronic acid (aka ha) and coconut water to support skin hydration, wear it under any tinted moisturizer, foundation, or alone for a fresh face look.“
The ColourPop Pretty Fresh Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Primer is a face primer, which is part of the ColourPop Pretty Fresh Collection. The hyaluronic acid is known to attract 1,000x its weight in water, whilst the coconut water is known to support hydration and skin softness.
This makeup primer is $12 / £10.18, and contains 30ml / 1.0 fl.oz of product, within a clear, frosted plastic bottle, with a white pump dispenser. I think the packaging looks really sleek for a budget face primer, and the pump dispenses the perfect amount of primer with just one pump, so there’s never any wastage.
I love the coconut scent of this primer, and it smells exactly like the matching ColourPop Pretty Fresh Hydrating Setting Mist. This primer is pale peach in colour, and the ColourPop Pretty Fresh Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Primer has a gel-cream consistency which absorbs into the skin with very little effort. It feels like a more like a moisturiser than it does a conventional primer, but it instantly feels hydrating, with a dewy finish.
It never feels sticky, but it just feels so nice on the skin. I hate primers which feel heavy, or you can just feel them on the surface of your skin, but I never get that with the ColourPop Pretty Fresh Hydrating Primer. My favourite thing about the primer is that it manages to hydrate the skin, but it doesn’t leave you looking too shiny.
Some more hydrating primers are so rich, they leave the skin looking oily, and I end up applying extra powder to try and mattify that shine, which then just makes my skin look and feel even drier, completely negating the whole point of using a hydrating primer. That’s not the case with this primer – it ticks all of the boxes, and the fact it’s affordable, is even better!
